 Principles of Economics - Stanford University - Edx

About: ‘Principles of Economics’ is designed to be an introduction to the fundamental cores of economics. Students learn how to think like an economist and delve into the functioning of a modern market economy. 

Course Content: The early part of the course focuses on microeconomic analysis including the behavior of consumers and firms while the latter part of the course moves on to macroeconomic concepts such as national production, employment, inflation, and interest rates. Students get to explore models that determine long-run growth and short-term fluctuations in national economies and then focus on the role of government regulation, monetary policy, and fiscal policy.

 Instructor of the Course: It is instructed by Professor John Taylor George (P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and Mary and Robert Raymond, Professor of Economics, Stanford University) through recorded lectures. 

Time Commitment: This is a self-paced course that demands around 5-10 hours a week and generally extends over 10 weeks. The course content is what is taught as a part of Economics I at Stanford University. As of July 16, the course will be archived for some time but future dates for its renewal will be announced soon.

Financial Aspects: All students have free access to the course materials and notes. If a student wants a verified certificate at the completion of the course along with access to graded assignments, he/she/they must pay 50$.

Other information: The course also has a discussion forum facilitated by a teaching assistant where students get an opportunity to communicate and discuss with other students and solve any queries they might have.

Microeconomics Principles - University of Illinois - Coursera

About: This is a beginner-level course that talks about how Economics is not just about money but also about how society distributes scarce resources. It explains how we can apply the rules of economics to pretty much anything.

Course Content: This course introduces the basic economic principles including supply and demand, Market Efficiency and Government Policies, elasticities, production and costs, competitive output, firms with market power and Public Goods, Common Resources, and Externalities. The primary goal of the course is to show you the way economists think and how to use this analytical system to answer questions related not only to labor markets, politics, environment, and other important human issues but to anything you end up doing after the class.

Managerial Economics and Business Analysis Specialization - University of Illinois - Coursera

About: The “Managerial Economics and Business Analysis Specialization”, offered by the University of Illinois, discusses how to apply economic theory and analytical tools to make effective business decisions.

The specialization will help in building a solid understanding of the operation of markets and the macro-economic environment with real-world examples. 

Course Content: You will learn to identify firm and country-level economic factors that impact business decisions, develop an analytical framework using statistical tools, and apply economic theory and data in the analysis of business environment and trends to make effective business decisions. The specialization consists of 7 courses.

Course Content: The course introduces risk management and behavioral finance principles to understand the real-world functioning of securities, insurance, and banking industries.  The ultimate goal of this course is to use such industries effectively and towards a better society. It helps gain skills in Behavioral Finance, Financial Market, Finance, and Behavioral Economics.

About: ‘Econometrics’ course by Erasmus University Rotterdam teaches how to translate data into models to make forecasts and to support decision making in a wide variety of fields, ranging from macroeconomics to finance and marketing.

Course Content: The course begins with introductory lectures on simple and multiple regression, followed by topics of special interest to deal with model specification, endogenous variables, binary choice data, and time-series data. For a better assessment of what you have learned, the course has six test exercises (one per module) and a case project.

About: This amazing, advanced-level course on ‘Social and Economic Networks’ by Stanford University teaches how to model social and economic networks and their impact on human behavior. 

Course Content: The course begins with some empirical background on social and economic networks and an overview of concepts used to describe and measure networks. Next a set of models of how networks form, including random network models as well as strategic formation models, and some hybrids after which a series of models of how networks impact behavior, including contagion, diffusion, learning, and peer influences are discussed.
